'Gold' and 'Satyameva Jayate' give Akshay Kumar, John Abraham their highest Day 1 collections

As India celebrated its 72nd Independence Day yesterday, two films ‘Gold’ and ‘Satyameva Jayate’ released. High on patriotic fervour, both the films have managed to wow the audience, if first day collections are put to test. 

Noted film critic and analyst Taran Adarsh took to Twitter and shared the happy news for box office and wrote: “The BIG HOLIDAY [#IndependenceDay] results in BIG NUMBERS at the BO... Both, #Gold and #SatyamevaJayate have TERRIFIC Day 1... Both, Akshay and John record their HIGHEST *Day 1* biz... The *combined* total is approx ₹ 45 cr [+/-], which is HUMONGOUS... Yesss, BO is on..”

Taran also shared individual number for John Abraham starrer ‘Satyameva Jayate’. The film went on to collect Rs 20 crore on its first day, an amazing feat for a film that competed for screens and audience with an equally promoted and hyped film. He wrote: “#SatyamevaJayate springs a BIG SURPRISE... Plexes are good, but single screens are ROCKING... Wed ₹ 20.52 cr. India biz.”

The true test of the films will be over the weekend when those who had not bothered to venture out on Independence Day will watch the films. While ‘Gold’ is based on the life of a sportsman who unites a team with a hope to get the nations its first gold medal as an independent country. ‘Gold’ has Akshay Kumar, Mouni Roy in important roles. ‘Satyamev Jayate' is a thriller drama which has been directed by Milap Zaveri and co-produced by Bhushan Kumar Krishan Kumar, Monisha Advani, Madhu Bhojwani and Nikkhil Advani respectively. The movie also features Manoj Bajpayee and Amruta Khanvilkar in pivotal roles.
