Drake is now the world’s best-selling recording artist of 2018

Good news for rapper Drake as IFPI, the organisation that represents the recorded music industry worldwide revealed that it has named him the world’s best-selling recording artist of 2018. This is not the first time when he won the honour as he was titled once before in 2016, With this, Drake has become the only artist to ever hold the prestigious title multiple times.

The title comes as no surprise as Drake had a good year with his fifth album Scorpion becoming a major hit. His song ‘In My Feelings’ started off a crazy dance trend and ‘God’s Plan’ music video dethroned himself atop the Billboard Hot 100, twice. 

Frances Moore, chief executive of IFPI said, “Drake has had an incredible, record-breaking year, one that is more than worthy of the title of Global Recording Artist of the Year. That Drake has won this award for the second time is a testament to his continued global appeal and his ability to engage and connect with fans."

Drake is the recipient of the sixth such award. Previous winners are Ed Sheeran (2017), Drake (2016), Adele (2015), Taylor Swift (2014) and One Direction (2013). K-pop boy band sensation BTS take second place on IFPI list for 2018, following the global success of albums Love Yourself: Tear and Love Yourself: Answer.
