Crazy Rich Asians might be the biggest surprise for a Hollywood film as the film has already risen expectations for people.

The film is a romantic comedy based on the novel by Kevin Kwan and will be the first Hollywood movie in 25 years with an all-Asian cast. The last time we saw an-all Asian cast was in 1993 -- The Joy Luck Club.

Crazy Rich Asians stars Michelle Yeoh, Constance Wu, Henry Golding, Gemma Chan, Awkwafina, Lisa Lu and Ken Jeong. Its helmed by Jon M Chu.

The film is said to have a built-in fan base since it is based on a best-selling book that is actually part of a trilogy.

Also, Asians make up 5.8 per cent of the U.S. population, according to the 2017 census, but a University of Southern California study showed that 37 of the top 100 grossing films in 2017 had no Asian characters. As a result of this skewed representation of Asian characters in Hollywood films, Crazy Rich Asians could over-perform and become a hit.

Another factor that might add to its working on the box office could be whitewashing of Asian roles and how Asians get even less representation on screen.

Crazy Rich Asians will hit theatres on August 15.
