Thanks to a digital release, 'Gulabo Sitabo' will now premiere across 200 countries and territories.

Filmmaker Shoojit Sircar's next 'Gulbao Sitabo' featuring Ayushmann Khurrana and Amitabh Bachchan was scheduled to release in theatres on April 12 but owing to the nationwide lockdown, the film will now get a direct digital release.

Ayushmann took to Instagram to announce that the film will now be releasing on Amazon Prime on June 12.

Sircar’s quirky dramedy is the tale of two slimy scheming foxes in a game of one upmanship, each one attracting other members to their clan and each one with an agenda of his own.

Thanks to a digital release, 'Gulabo Sitabo' will now premiere across 200 countries and territories.

"This is the dawn of a new era for Indian entertainment," Sircar told a news agency. "I am happy that a global audience will be able to watch our gritty dramedy, and enjoy what the film has in store for them. ''Gulabo Sitabo'' is a quirky, lighthearted movie that the audience can enjoy with their families. It has been a wonderful experience working with Amitabh Bachchan and Ayushmann Khurrana on the film."

News of the film getting a direct digital release was doing the rounds for some time and Ayushmann confirmed it on Thursday morning.

'Gulabo Sitabo' has been produced by Ronnie Lahiri and Sheel Kumar.

The film is one of the many big summer releases which has opted for a digital release amid the nationwide lockdown. Trade pundits see this as a new change and predict that more filmmakers are likely to follow the same route in the coming weeks.
