Padukone, who turns producer with the film, plays the lead role with Vikrant Massey playing her love interest and an activist.

This is the first time that Meghna Gulzar has teamed up with Padukone and Massey.

Earlier this year, the actress had shared the first look of the film which had caught everyone's attention and was widely discussed and praised on social media for its authenticity.

While sharing the link of the trailer on Instagram, Padukone also shared insights about how she did not need an entire narration to decide whether she wanted to be a part of the film or not.

"Rarely do you come across a story where you do not need an entire narration to decide if you want to be a part of a film or not. What is even more rare is to not be able to articulate and put into words what you feel for the film and it’s journey...
Chhapaak is all of that and more for me..." Deepika wrote.

Meghna Gulzar's last film 'Raazi' was a critically acclaimed film and won multiple awards last year. This is Deepika's first film post her wedding to actor Ranveer Singh in November 2018. She was last seen in 'Padmaavat' which released in January 2018.
