Ayushmann Khurrana reacts to 'Article 15' ban row, says 'right time to talk about caste discrimination'

Ayushmann Khurrana’s forthcoming film ‘Article 15’ will release this Friday and there is already some talk around banning it. Fringe group Karni Sena wants the film to be banned as it they believe that the film shows them in a bad light. 

The film takes on the issue of caste discrimination in India and is directed by Anubhav Sinha. 

The trailer of the film received a great response from the audience. Ayushmann plays an IPS officer in the film. 

Reacting to the news of some sections of the society wanting the film to be banned, Ayushmann said that somebody had to take the first step. 

He said that people are sensitive about their own communities but they should realise many of them have been insensitive towards the underprivileged since time immemorial. He feels this is the right time and era to talk about caste discrimination.

Ayushmann added, "Change will not happen immediately but it will trigger a conversation. Those communities should realise that the film has been cleared by the Censor Board, which is a body set up by the government. They should watch the film to begin with and they will realise there is nothing in it against them. The same thing happened with Padmaavat. Watch the film and then if there is something objectionable, protest. Then at least it’s fair."

'Article 15' is scheduled to release on June 28.
