Story highlights

The film's trailer has been courting controversies as it took a political turn as soon as it released. While BJP tweeted the trailer from their own Twitter handle, something never seen before from the political party, Congress objected to it citing "distortion of facts".

Anupam Kher’s biographical drama on former PM Manmohan Singh ‘The Accidental Prime Minister’ has now taken another turn as the trailer of the film has gone missing from the official YouTube channel.

In a shocking tweet today, lead actor Anupam Kher who plays Singh in the film, raised serious concerns after fans allegedly couldn’t find the trailer on the video-sharing platform. He wrote: “Dear @YouTube!!! I am getting messages & calls that in parts of our country if you type, trailer of #TheAccidentalPrimeMinister, it is either not appearing or at 50th position. We were trending at No.1 yday. Please help. #HappyNewYear. #37millionviews 😊.”

As the issue gained momentum with the Twitterati talking about it, Kher came back on Twitter again with a fresh message that urged fans to support the film’s team at this crucial time, to tell them how they (fans) liked the trailer.

The film’s trailer has been embroiled in controversy ever since it released as it got a political flavour with both BJP and Congress parties taking shots at each other. While BJP tweeted the trailer from their own handle and called it “riveting tale of how a family held the country to ransom for 10 long years”, many Congress leaders asked for a preview of the film before it is screened for the public.

The movie also stars Akshaye Khanna in the role of the media advisor-cum-book writer, Sanjaya Baru.

It is slated to release on January 11, 2019.
