With India celebrating its 72nd Independence Day tomorrow on August 15, 2018, two films will release in theatres -- Akshay Kumar’s ‘Gold’ and John Abraham’s ‘Satyameva Jayate’.

High on patriotism and with a social message in both, it will be a crucial match between Akshay and John Abraham starrers. Interestingly, it is not the first time when Akshay has chosen to release a film on a national holiday like Independence Day and Republic Day, considering his fans connect with him on a nationalistic note.

Discussing a crucial clash of films on I-Day, when John was asked if he feels nervous for his film in a media interaction, he said, “I think there is enough space for two big films on a holiday. It’s not competing. We are complementing each other. We would love if people go and see ‘Satyameva Jayate’ and we would be absolutely happy if people go and see ‘Gold’.”

As per reports, screens are expected to be evenly distributed between the two films. According to trade analysts, Akshay Kumar’s ‘Gold’ is fetching over 2500 screen count whereas ‘Satyameva Jayate’ is getting 2200 plus screens.

Trade Analyst, Girish Johar, told a website: “The screens are still being worked out for the sharing between Gold & Satyameva Jayate but as of now, it's looking in the range of 2700 & 2000 favouring Gold. Gold is having more universal appeal and is going to find more patronage amongst the audiences comprising of youth & families. Meanwhile, Satyameva Jayate is a massy film catering to a wider section of the audiences. The multiplexes will be favouring GOLD more vis-a-via Satyameva Jayate and its overall contribution will be around 70% at the film box office business, so naturally Gold has an edge. Also, the star power of Akshay Kumar is at an all-time peak and he has a very steady and loyal fan following. Moreover, Gold has a strong patriotic feel as well, which will be an added advantage over the Independence Day release.”

While both films have been marketed well, it’s the content that counts. ‘Gold’ is a sports drama that promises to take you back to the golden period of Indian hockey when India won its first gold medal as an Independent nation. It follows the story of Tapan Das, a nationalist who unites his team for the win.

‘Satyameva Jayate’ is an action thriller that follows John Abraham’s character who fights corruption and strives for justice to prevail.

On both the film’s strategy, Girish said, “I feel that word of mouth is surely going to play a huge role which will change the box tide by the evening. Gold should be 20crs plus range.”
