Akshay Kumar: I don’t want to join politics, just want to make good films

As Akshay Kumar gears up for ‘Kesari’ that is due to release on the day of Indian festival Holi on March 21, the Bollywood actor got in a conversation with Zee News Editor-in-Chief Sudhir Chaudhary. 

Excited for his film that boasts of being high on love for his country, Akshay got candid about the choice of his films, why the epic battle of Saragarhi should make it to the history books and more. He also spoke about the current political climate in the country as the general elections are soon to approach. 

In a film that is centred around the Battle of Saragarhi, Akshay said that he feels happy and proud that the script came to him and that he gets to tell this tale to his fellow countrymen. He said, “We should have the tale of Saragarhi in the syllabus of history. There’s very less information on the internet. There were only 4 articles back when I started researching, now there are 40,000.”

He continued, “I did the same with Airlift. People hardly knew about the heroic event when I started shooting for the film, one with which India made a world record" and added, "I am blessed to be in cinema as the power of cinema is extremely great.”

Akshay will be seen leading 21 Sikh men battalion in the film. In 1897, the soldiers who although were outnumbered, fought bravely against the Afghan army. Akshay said that there are many such stories from India that need to be told. He said, “They had a chance to run but they didn’t. They stood and fought.”

When asked if he has a hidden agenda behind doing a certain type of films, the star said, “Before you ask me, let me tell you that I don’t want to join politics. I am not interested in it. I just want to make good films, tell people stories of bravery.”

'Kesari' also has Parineeti Chopra in a pivotal role.
