2020 Golden Globes: Kit Harington aka Jon Snow reacts on lone 'Game of Thrones' nomination

The 2020 Golden Globes nominations list was announced yesterday and to the surprise of many (or maybe not), HBO hit show ‘Game of Thrones’ bagged only one nod. There was no mention of the hit TV show in best drama series but one nomination for actor Kit Harington who starred in the show as Jon Snow.

He is among five actors nominated in the best actor TV series drama genre. The others in the list are Brian Cox for ‘Succession’, Rami Malek for ‘Mr. Robot’, Tobias Menzies for ‘The Crown’ and Billy Porter for ‘Pose’. 

Reacting to his first-ever Golden Globes nod, Kit Harington when approached, said that he "didn't expect to be nominated". At his home, rehearsing his lines when he was told of the news by his publicists, Kit said, "I thought the show might be, but I was just at home, learning lines, and then my publicists called. It was very unexpected and wonderful."

He continued, "Every time I go to say goodbye to this show, something comes along that reminds me of the story of it. This is one of those moments. I have to say thanks to the HFPA for nominating me. We spent a lot of years with this thing. Obviously I dearly love it. I loved every moment of it. I loved the character. It's a weird feeling, but I feel kind of happy for him [Jon Snow], the character if that makes sense."

Kit also mentioned that he was "sad" not to be going with his former ‘Game of Thrones’ co-stars, such as Emilia Clarke and Peter Dinklage, or showrunners David Benioff and DB Weiss. He said, "Obviously I wanted everyone to be nominated, and I feel like they should, as anyone who loves their show and loves their cast and crew would feel and want," he said. "I'm happy for my nomination... so I'll represent the show on my own. I'll do my best."

In other news, 2020 Golden Globes nominations list had a number of nods for another popular show ‘The Crown’ as Olivia Colman and Helena Bonham Carter, Tobias Menzies were nominated. It also got nominated for Best Drama Series category. See the full list of 2020 Golden Globes nominations here.
