Sensex sheds over 250 points as equity indices open in red

The key Indian equity indices opened on a negative note on Monday, with the BSE Sensex losing over 250 points.

At 10:30 am Sensex is trading 249 points, or 0.65%, lower at 38,088, with Bajaj Finance, HDFC Bank, HDFC, IndusInd Bank, and Kotak Bank among the top losers. The broader Nifty50 index cracked 60 points,or 0.52%, to 11,360.

All the Nifty sectoral indices, except Nifty IT and Nifty Metal indexes, were trading in the red. While Nifty Realty index bled the most 2.07 per cent, Nifty PSU Bank, Nifty Private Bank, and Nifty Bank indexes were all down over 1 per cent.

In the broader market, the S&P BSE MidCap index was down 164 points, or 1.17 per cent, to 13,914, while the S&P BSE SmallCap index was down 206 points, or 1.54 per cent, to 13,104.
