Sensex rises 112 points to end at fresh high
The Sensex surged 112 points to end at a fresh high of 33,686 on Friday. The Nifty too hit reached a record of 10,452.50 after rising 29 points.
The 30-stock benchmark had opened at a record high in the morning too as financials gained, while healthcare and energy stocks edged lower as investors took a breather after a prolonged rally.
Investor sentiment has been upbeat in India with the government’s recent announcement of a recapitalisation plan for banks.
Shares of Bharti Airtel Ltd surged as much as four per cent during the day to their highest level in over a decade. The stock has risen nearly 78 per cent this year as of Thursday’s close.
Among losers, Glenmark Pharmacueticals Ltd fell as much as three per cent as a fall in second-quarter profit and sequential rise in debt concerned analysts.
