Sensex opens 100 points down, Nifty below 10,750

The stock market indices opened lower on Tuesday tracking weak global cues. The Sensex slumped 131 points to 35,643 in the opening trade, while the broader Nifty 50 opened below the psychological 10,750-mark.

Yesterday, BSE benchmark Sensex rallied over 300 points to end at over a six-week high of 35,774.88 as investors widened their portfolios ahead of the RBI's board meet outcome amid foreign fund inflows.

Also, positive cues from other Asian markets and a firm opening in European shares buoyed investor sentiment here.

Meanwhile, Continuing its rising spree for the sixth straight day, the rupee appreciated by another 29 paise to trade at a nearly three-month high of 71.38 against the dollar in opening trade on persistent foreign fund inflows.
