Sensex ends at record closing high, Nifty closes at 11,713

The Sensex closed above the crucial 39,000-mark (39,057) Tuesday, up 185 points or 0.48 per cent. 

The Sensex closed at a record high Tuesday, extending its gains to the fourth day amid buying in select blue-chip counters such as Tata Motors, Bharti Airtel, TCS and Bajaj Finance.  

The BSE Sensex closed above the crucial 39,000-mark (39,057) Tuesday, up 185 points or 0.48 per cent. 

The NSE Nifty50 index meanwhile closed at 11,713, up 44 points or 0.38 per cent, with 23 constituents advancing and 27 declining. 

Tata Motors, Bharti Airtel, Eicher Motors, SBI and Gail India were among gainers on the Nifty, while HPCL, Zee Entertainment, BPCL, Bajaj Auto and Sun Pharma remained on the losing side.

Among the sectors, PSU and auto led the gainers followed by infra and IT, while FMCG, metal and pharma witnessed selling pressure.

Global markets were mostly higher, buoyed by positive factory activity data from China and the United States. Among the Sensex stocks, Tata Motors surged 9%, its second day of strong gains.
