The Prime Minister's office on Friday called for an urgent meeting to discuss the Jet Airways crisis.

According to sources, the meeting has been called after Civil Aviation Minister Suresh Prabhu asked the secretary of the department to review issues concerning Jet Airways.

Jet Airways extended the suspension of its international operations until next Monday due to liquidity issues.

Crisis-hit Jet Airways is facing acute financial crunch and has grounded several of its flights and stopped international operations.

The drastic measure was announced after the airline informed the exchanges that it was forced to ground 10 more planes due to non-payment of rentals to the lessors.

The airline, once India's leading private carrier, has been forced in recent months to cancel hundreds of flights to dozens of destinations both in India and overseas, leading to a customer backlash and a steady slide in its market share.

According to industry sources, the airline now owes more than Rs 3,500 crore to passengers on account of flight cancellations alone.

Jet Airways promoter and former chairman Naresh Goyal along with his wife Anita quit the airline on March 25.
