Petrol, diesel prices hiked for third straight day

On Sunday, petrol and diesel prices were hiked by 60 paise per litre. On Monday, it was increased by a similar priceline.
The government on Tuesday announced hiking of petrol prices by 54 paise per litre and diesel by 58 paise a litre.
The petrol prices in Delhi will now cost Rs 73.00 per litre, with diesel rates now available at Rs 71.17 a litre.
It is the third straight day fuel price hike.
The move comes after oil companies on Sunday had restarted revising prices in line with costs, after ending an 82-day pause after the government on March 14 had hiked excise duty on petrol and diesel by Rs 3 per litre each.

According to government data released last week, India's gas sales had jumped sharply in May compared with April due to the lockdown. However, sales in May was still down nearly 36 per cent and 31 per cent respectively from a year earlier, after contracting more than 50 per cent in April compared to last year.
The sale of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) had risen 13 per cent in May from a year ago while jet fuel declined by 85 per cent during the same period, data showed.
