Markets open in green, Sensex gains around 300 points

Nifty went up by nearly 80 points in morning trade at 10,816.65 points.

Domestic markets on Thursday opened in green with BSE Sensex opening higher at 36,002.11 points as compared to its previous close of 35,649.94 points on Wednesday, registering a spike of around 300 points. 

Nifty, on the other hand, went up by nearly 80 points in morning trade at 10,816.65 points. It had closed at 10,729.85 points on Wednesday. 

After gyrating nearly 700 points Wednesday, benchmark equity indices reversed initial losses and ended higher driven by a rebound in banking stocks amid a firming trend in the US market.

The BSE Sensex broke its three-day falling streak by ending 179.79 points, or 0.51 per cent, higher at 35,649.94. It fell to a low of 35,010.82 during afternoon trade.

The broader NSE Nifty too recovered to reclaim the 10,700 level, rising 66.35 points, or 0.62 per cent, to 10,729.85, news agency PTI reported. 

Meanwhile, Wall Street stocks roared back to life on Wednesday, shaking off four straight routs following strong retail sales data and White House reassurances that Fed Chair Jay Powell won't be fired.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average finished up nearly 1,100 points, or about five per cent, at 22,878.45, news agency AFP reported.
