Fuel rates across India have been on a falling trend due to the fall in global crude oil prices.
What also contributed to this slump is a cut of Rs 1.5 in excise duty and a Rs 2.5 cut in sales tax or VAT in several states. Oil retailers were also asked to bear a loss of Rs 1 on every litre of fuel sold in India by the state government.
