Arun Jaitley said Thursday while presenting the annual Budget that the NDA government would set up the world's largest healthcare programme.

The scheme, he said, would insure 10 crore families or approximately 50 crore people.

Each person, Jaitley said, would be given insurance cover of Rs 5 lakh a year.

Jaitley added that the government was going to add 24 government medical colleges or hospitals by upgrading existing district hospitals.

The additional hospitals would mean there will be at least one government medical college or hospital in each state and every three parliamentary constituencies.
