Nifty 50 crossed the 11,700 mark for the first time ever at 11,700.95 just before the closing time on Monday.

In a fresh record, Sensex on Tuesday surged 181.75 points at 38,875.86. Nifty climbed 59.25 points to scale a new peak of 11,751.20 as markets opened on the second day of the week today.

On Monday, BSE Sensex closed 1.16 per cent higher at 38,694.11 gaining 442 points on Monday while NSE's Nifty 50 advanced 1.17 per cent to close at 11,691.95 points, aided by the gains in Asian markets and record Wall Street highs reported on Friday.

Nifty 50 crossed the 11,700 mark for the first time ever at 11,700.95 just before the closing time.

Trading sentiments remained extremely bullish largely in tandem with a firm trend at other Asian bourses, taking another record lead from Wall Street as investors cheered news of trade deal between the US and Mexico.
Sentiment also got a lift following an improvement in liquidity in the market on fresh inflows by foreign funds, brokers said.

Strong gains in metal, power, tech, healthcare and IT, fertilisers and sugar stocks lifted the key indices to new highs.

The 30-share index surged 181.75 points, or 0.46 per cent, to trade at an all-time high of 38,875.86, surpassing its previous high of 38,736.88, recorded in yesterday's trade.

Asian shares rose early on Monday, taking support from Wall Street’s gains on Friday after US Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell said a gradual approach to raising rates was best to protect the US economy and job growth, Reuters reported.
