Maruti Suzuki on Tuesday launched Suzuki Connect at Rs 9,999 for a three-year subscription in what is a big step towards connected-car technology in India.

Developed after an extensive survey and thorough testing in 46 Indian cities, Suzuki Connect is an advanced telematics system incorporated into the car’s engine to provide the owner with a number of crucial information that can help improve performance, safety and the driving experience.

Virtually tamper-proof, Suzuki Connect provides information on the car’s performance, fuel efficiency, tracks driver behaviour – even rating the driver on a 100-point scale and motiors the car’s key components. The data is accessed via an app that is available for both Android and IOS devices.

Some other key highlights:

  • Live vehicle tracking
  • Geo Fence - Owners can select five boundary areas for the vehicle and will get an alert if the vehicle crosses these. This can be useful in chauffer-driven cars.
  • Navigate car - Owners can pin-point car location.
  • Tow-away alert - Owners will get an alert if their vehicle moves without the ignition being turned on.
  • Location sharing - Owners can give access to family and friends to track their vehicle.
  • Driver rating system - Driver is assessed on score of 100 on the manner in which he/she drives.
  • Fuel efficiency report
  • Malfunction and possible malfunction report

Quoting studies, Maruti said that by 2 per cent - or 4 crore – of all cars on India roads would be connected by 2020. The company wants to have a major chunk in that share and is pinning its hopes on providing Nexa customers with a holistic experience.
