Asian shares edged higher on Friday after US equities were buoyed by solid quarterly earnings and a rebound in technology stocks, while all eyes in the region are on a historic summit between the two Koreas.

Japan's benchmark Nikkei stock average gained 0.4 percent, up 147.05 yen from the previous day at the opening of Tokyo stock market, news agency Reuters reported.

Hong Kong's stock market opened with the benchmark Hang Seng Index also rising one percent to 30,300.83.

Australian shares followed Wall Street's strong earnings, with the S&P/ASX 200 index rising 0.3 percent or 18.2 points to 5,929 by 0248 GMT. The benchmark is on track to gain about one percent for the week.
